Ramen and many other processed noodles (like lo mein, Thai, or glass noodles) have been linked to an increased number of overweight adults and a rise in heart disease in South Korea.
Dr. Hyun Joon Shin, a clinical cardiology fellow at Baylor University Medical Center, conducted a study and found that eating processed noodles 2 or more times a week will increase the chances of developing metabolic syndrome; which can increase your risk of diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular disease, or even death!
Other things to keep in mind before you reach for that brick of ramen, it contains 40% of daily requirement of saturated fat and has more than half the daily allowance of sodium! Any foods packaged in styrofoam may contain bisphenol-A, or BPA, which is a suspected carcinogen.
So, while ramen is quick and cheap, it may not be the best thing to eat – even just once or twice a month. Share away, people.
